Daniel Natura
CEM

Member & CFO

Over nearly 40 years, Daniel has leveraged his professional experience to create a deep understanding of energy systems that create distributed heat and power. He is a smart-energy-use advocate, focused on behind-the-meter technologies for conservation of resources and dollars, pollution reduction and increased security. Daniel’s interests also extend into the natural world; he is an amateur botanist and ecologist, and actively stewards large-scale natural areas that include Midwestern woodland, savanna, prairie, and wetland plant communities on both private and public properties.

Daniel is one of the founding members of Living Habitats and continues to serve as the company’s CFO. In addition to his hands on ecological stewardship, career experience includes a wide array of related practice including applications for sustainable energy initiatives and back-up power systems, UL testing coordination for energy efficient products, and research and development of prototype power technologies for the Department of Energy, Chicago Transit Authority, Toshiba, Georgetown University, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Daniel has participated directly in many Living Habitats projects that have called for specific ecological stewardship or monitoring activities, custom artwork fabrications, or a renewable energy aspect. For example, Daniel developed the solar energy design and specifications that power the lighting and the electric organ on the Rooftop Garden for the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library, as well as the National Institutes of Health Library Green Roof solar powered irrigation, fountain and lighting.

“It was an honor to be involved with the renewable energy and artwork aspects of the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Center Green Roof and Chime Artwork Project in Little Rock, Arkansas. Integrated passive and active musical artworks activated the space and outdoor evening use of the Center’s roof decks needed lighting; both called for renewable energy power supplies layered into the green roof design. As a design-build project with Tremco Roofing serving as the prime contractor, Living Habitats was the lead green roof and chime artwork designer and was also able to participate in the project’s fabrication and installation. These situations fully leverage my professional training and hands-on experience, especially when custom aspects require knowledge across a range of trades and disciplines in pursuit of sustainability goals.”
