Barbara Brown Nature Preserve
Living Habitats worked side-by-side with renowned landscape architect Darrel Morrison in the planning and documentation for the proposed improvements, natural habitat, and passive recreational amenities for the Barbara Brown Nature Reserve Project located in the southeast corner of the Chicago Botanic Garden.
Highly degraded woods choked with buckthorn were cleared and replanted creating a series of native habitats ranging from floating-leaved aquatic to upland prairie and woods. A rural scale granular walking path winds effortlessly through the Nature Reserve connecting habitats, vistas, and several overlook structures for bird watchers that will use the preserve for respite and exercise.
