The Obama Foundation
Obama Presidential Center
Living Habitats is a vendor for the Obama Presidential Center’s landscape architecture team tasked with creating this site to honor the 44th President of the United States. It will serve as a future-facing place of civic engagement and education, drawing an international audience to Chicago’s south side.
The Obama Presidential Center, located in the City of Chicago’s historic Jackson Park, will serve as a hub for community civic engagement and will embody the Obama Presidency legacy. The firm plays a vital role alongside Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates and Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects as local landscape architects on the project, providing design assistance, invaluable technical insight, and environmental expertise ensuring the building exists within the larger framework of historic Jackson Park and the surrounding Hyde Park neighborhood.
Living Habitats has also been active in the team’s coordination with the Chicago Park District as they implement their Framework Plan for Jackson Park, facilitating thoughtful integration of the Obama Presidential Center within the context of the park’s rich cultural history, local community needs, natural resources, and ecological underpinnings along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Proximity to the Museum of Science and Industry and the University of Chicago campus reinforce important local synergies while also providing an important new City of Chicago destination with significant global interest.
