Chicago Residential Garden

Chicago, Illinois / 2001

A modest Queen Anne bungalow had tired, you could even say decrepit landscaping that begged for a fresh take. This client had a young family that needed a yard the children could use to play and the parents could enjoy.

In the front yard, the open entry porch was rebuilt using the historic rails that were repaired and used as inspiration for other custom metal work details, including a crawl space screen and column trellises. A blend of native and non-native plants were added to both the yard and right of way.

In the rear yard, updates to perimeter fencing and rear porch set the framework for a new patio and perennial plantings. A vegetable garden found a place along the south side of the garage.  A small fountain and outdoor seating complete the new urban oasis.
